TOURISM BOARD:

A group of organized standing committees of the tourism board support many community activities and tourist-related projects throughout Spencer County. In addition, the tourism board produces the annual Light Up Salt River festival, held on the first Saturday in July and the Spencer County Christmas Home Tour, the first Saturday in December.   • Kentucky Gourd Show.
    3rd weekend in May, offers gourd craft booths of all kinds, classes, demonstrations, gourds and gourd crafted items for sale. (502) 477-8543. Click here for more festivities going on throughout the weekend.
  • Relay for Life
    Over 15 teams have formed to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Festivities include team cooking, selling items and hosting games, silent auction and a luminaria ceremony.

  • Light up Salt River.
    June 28, 2008
    Gates open at 2 pm, Live entertainment at 6 pm. Event wraps up with fireworks over Taylorsville Lake.
    Offers arts and craft booths of all kinds, antiques, quilts, craft demonstrations, entertainment, food, hot air balloon race and fireworks.

  • Spencer County Fair. Middle of July, Fairgrounds. Rides, horse show, arts & crafts exhibits, beauty pageants, truck and tractor pulls. (502) 477-2217
  • 8th Annual Native American Indian Festival/Gathering Waterford Park, Hwy 44, Taylorsville. Grand Entry: Oct. 14 1 and 6 pm; Oct. 15 - 1 pm. Gates open at 10 am both days. Click here to email or call (502) 969-1339 (evenings).
  • Spencer County Homecoming. Festivities begin with a traditional chili supper, parade, homecoming contest, Miss and Mr. contest, game booths, arts & crafts booths, country and gospel music and competitive events for adults and children. Chili Supper is sponsored by the Senior Class at the Spencer County High School - alumni return to support their alma mater. Homecoming event is sponsored by businesses and local officials.
  • Waterford Homecoming. Features arts and craft booths, live entertainment and area history displays.
  • Little Mount Fall Festival. September 13, 2008. 10 am - 6 pm. Music, children's activities, horse drawn carriage rides, auction. Contact Shirley Thomas(502) 477-2335.
  • Trick or Treat on Main Street. October. Local businesses open during city's trick-or-treat hours to distribute candy. (502) 477-2239.
  • FFA Farm Toy Show. Second weekend in December. Spencer Co. High School FFA sponsors a farm toy show at the high school. All types from all over the country; arts and craft booths.
  • Christmas on Main Street. Second Friday in December. Offers free children's activities, live entertainment, parade, decorations, caroling and carriage rides.
  • Santa's Visit. Second Friday and Saturday in December. Offers children a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, tree decoration contests.
  • Christmas Home Tour. First Saturday in December. Various homes around the county. Tours of selected homes decorated for the holidays. Sponsored by the Main Street Program. (502) 477-6608.
